It was a late January spring like sunny afternoon, and i Decided that this was the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
So i trundled upto my favourite DX spot on top of a small mountain about 250m asl just south of Harlech. I set up the antennas in just a few minutes HF and VHF and then plugged in the Yaesu 897 and fired it up. Wow was i to be surprised, 80 - 40 - 20 and 2 meters alive with continental Europe and stateside all booming in.

After about an hour playing on 80m and 2m, a friend arrived, Louis MW6LDM. He began putting up a 4 meter high fishing rod with a 2m J-Type antenne on the top.
Started to work most of the UK and of course continental Europe and then thought that i would get involved in the US action. To my surprise i had a whale of a time, US and then suddenly South Africa, so as you can imagine i was very pleased with myself.
Well we stayed on top of the mountain until it got dark and was blessed with a fantastic sunset, It rounded a perfect afternoon.
Below: Wow what a view.
My point to this little artical is that look what you can do with not very much, my moto to life almost.......73.
